Best Steakhouses in NYC for World Cup Fans
New York City has some of the finest steakhouses in the world. Whether you're celebrating a win, entertaining clients, or simply treating yourself to the definitive New York dining experience, here's where to go.
The classic NYC steakhouse experience
A true NYC steakhouse is an event. Expect: dry-aged USDA Prime beef, classic sides (creamed spinach, hash browns, onion rings), a robust wine list, and formal service. The meal will be expensive — plan $80–$150 per person for food before drinks. These are not casual meals.
The old-guard institutions
Peter Luger in Williamsburg, Brooklyn has been open since 1887 and is considered by many to be the best steakhouse in America. Cash only, notoriously brusque service, but the porterhouse is extraordinary. Keens Steakhouse in Midtown has been open since 1885 and has a legendary mutton chop and historic atmosphere. Both require reservations well in advance, especially during World Cup season.
Midtown options near Penn Station
For groups going to MetLife, Midtown steakhouses are convenient — you eat, then walk to Penn Station. Smith & Wollensky on 49th Street and 3rd Avenue is a classic. Benjamin Steakhouse in the Dylan Hotel near Grand Central is excellent. Del Frisco's Double Eagle on 6th Avenue handles large parties well.
Budget
Steakhouses in NYC are a premium experience — budget $100–$200 per person with drinks and sides. The splurge is worth it for a celebration meal. For more affordable cuts, many steakhouses have bar menus or lunch specials that offer better value.
💡 Tip: Book steakhouse reservations 2–4 weeks in advance for World Cup match weekends. Final weekend (July 18–19) is booked the furthest in advance — reserve as early as possible.
