For most visiting fans, this will be their first time in New York — and for many, their first time anywhere near a professional baseball game. Both the Yankees and Mets play throughout the World Cup window, with marquee matchups that are worth building into your trip. Tickets are affordable by New York standards, the stadiums are easy to reach by subway, and an evening at the ballpark is one of the best ways to experience the city between match days.
- Yankees vs. Dodgers, July 17–19 — the single best series of the summer, happening the same weekend as the World Cup Final at MetLife Stadium.
- Yankees Soccer Jersey Night, June 18 — a deliberate crossover event for World Cup visitors.
- Mets vs. Red Sox, July 10–12 — marquee rivalry at Citi Field mid-tournament.
- Mets vs. Dodgers, July 24–26 — the final weekend after the tournament ends; a natural way to extend your stay.
New York Yankees Home Schedule — World Cup Window
The Yankees play at Yankee Stadium in the Bronx, accessible via the 4, B, and D subway lines directly to 161st Street–Yankee Stadium. The ride from Midtown takes about 20 minutes. Standard tickets start around $20–$30 for weekday games; marquee series run higher.

New York Mets Home Schedule — World Cup Window
The Mets play at Citi Field in Flushing, Queens — take the 7 train from Midtown Manhattan directly to Mets-Willets Point station, about 30 minutes from Times Square. The stadium is adjacent to the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, which also hosts a World Cup fan zone this summer. Tickets are generally more affordable than Yankees games, with good seats available from $25 on most nights.
Getting to the Stadiums
Yankee Stadium (The Bronx)
Take the 4, B, or D train to 161st Street–Yankee Stadium. From Midtown the ride is around 20 minutes. The station exits directly to the stadium plaza. Gates open 90 minutes before first pitch. Food, beer, and the full New York baseball experience are all inside.
Citi Field (Queens)
Take the 7 train to Mets-Willets Point — the last stop on the line from Times Square, about 30 minutes. The station is a short walk to the stadium entrance. Note that Citi Field is adjacent to the Queens World Cup fan zone at USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, so you can combine both on the same day.
- A standard MLB game runs about 2.5–3 hours — plan your evening around a 7pm first pitch finishing around 10pm.
- Bags must be soft-sided and under 16" x 16" x 8" at both stadiums.
- Both stadiums have excellent food options beyond standard hot dogs — Citi Field in particular is known for its concessions.
- Buy tickets in advance for marquee series (Dodgers, Red Sox, July 4) — same-day prices on resale markets spike significantly.
The July 19 Overlap: World Cup Final Day
July 19 is one of the most remarkable days in New York sports history — the FIFA World Cup Final at MetLife Stadium and Yankees vs. Dodgers at Yankee Stadium are happening simultaneously. The Final kicks off at 3pm; Yankees vs. Dodgers starts at 7:20pm. For the serious sports fan, doing both in one day — MetLife for the Final, then the Bronx for the evening game — is genuinely possible if you plan the transit carefully. See our MetLife Stadium transit guide for game-day logistics.
