Getting to MetLife Stadium from Brooklyn — World Cup Match Day Guide
Brooklyn is home to some of the largest World Cup fan communities in New York — Flatbush, Bay Ridge, Sunset Park, Crown Heights. Getting to MetLife from Brooklyn takes a little planning but is straightforward once you know the route. Here are your options.
The Fastest Route from Brooklyn to MetLife
The fastest option from most of Brooklyn is the subway to Penn Station, then NJ Transit to the stadium.
Step-by-Step Directions
Subway to Penn Station
Take any Manhattan-bound train to 34th Street Penn Station. From Flatbush/Crown Heights, take the 2/3 or B/Q. From Bay Ridge, take the R to 34th Street. Allow 35–55 minutes depending on your starting point.
NJ Transit from Penn Station
Buy a World Cup match-day ticket at the NJ Transit window or app (check NJ Transit website for match-day pricing). Trains depart from tracks 1–4. Journey to Frank R. Lautenberg Station at Secaucus: approximately 15 minutes. Match-day shuttles then run to MetLife.
Total journey time
Door to MetLife: approximately 60–80 minutes from most Brooklyn locations. Leave at least 90 minutes before kick-off.
Uber MetLife Shuttle
The official $20 round-trip shuttle departs from Port Authority, Grand Central, and Columbus Circle -- the best-value option from Brooklyn. For a direct ride, Uber also operates a flat-rate MetLife service from multiple Brooklyn pickup points on match days.
Match Day Tips
- Leave 90 minutes before kick-off — gates open 2.5 hours before the match and queues build fast
- Buy NJ Transit tickets in advance — avoid the queue at Penn Station on match day
- No large bags — MetLife has a clear bag policy; only bags 12"ร6"ร12" or smaller are allowed
- Return journey — trains back to Penn Station run continuously after the match; plan for 45–60 min wait time in the station queue after a big match
