Spain 2026 World Cup Squad

⚽ Round of 32: 🇪🇸 Spain vs 🇦🇹 Austria · Thu Jul 2 · 3:00 PM ET · Los Angeles · Guide → · Tickets →

Spain arrive at the 2026 World Cup as the team everyone else is building their tournament hopes around beating. Reigning European champions. Number one in the FIFA world rankings. A squad so deep that players like Ferran Torres and Dani Olmo — who would start for almost any other nation — are fighting for places on the bench. And at the center of everything, an 18-year-old from Barcelona who is already being discussed in the same sentences as Messi and Ronaldo.

Key Players to Watch

Lamine Yamal — The Phenomenon

He turned 17 the day before the Euro 2024 final. He is now 18. In between, he was named the best young player in Europe, scored one of the tournament's great goals against France in the semifinal, and became the youngest player to appear in a major international final. At Barcelona, he has continued in the same vein — goals, assists, direct running that defenders cannot handle. At this World Cup, Yamal will face the most sophisticated defensive systems in the sport for the first time. Every tactical conversation about Spain starts and ends with how to set up around him.

Rodri — The Best Midfielder on Earth

The reigning Ballon d'Or winner. Manchester City's deep-lying midfielder controls games with such quiet authority that his brilliance is easy to miss. Spain rarely lose when Rodri plays; they are a different team without him. His ability to recycle possession, break up opposition attacks, and play the simple ball at exactly the right moment gives Spain a composure that makes them incredibly difficult to play against.

Pedri — The Creator

Barcelona's midfielder has been compared to Johan Cruyff, to Andrés Iniesta, to every great Spanish No.8 of the past 50 years. He plays in tight spaces, receives the ball under pressure, and releases it at exactly the right moment. Alongside Rodri and Fabián Ruiz, Spain have perhaps the most complete midfield in the tournament.

Álvaro Morata — The Striker

Morata divides opinion but produces in major tournaments. He scored the opening goal in the Euro 2024 final. He gives Spain a physical, intelligent target striker who links play and arrives in the box at the right moment. With Yamal and Williams supplying him, he has the most dangerous wide options of any striker in the tournament.

Can Spain Win the World Cup?

Yes — and they might be the most complete team. They have no obvious weakness: world-class goalkeeper, experienced defense, the best midfield unit in the tournament, pace and creativity in attack, and a manager who has already won a major tournament with this generation. The question is whether a young squad — Yamal, Cubarsí, Williams are all under 23 — can handle the pressure of being favorites across seven matches. Spain's tournament history includes failures as favorites (2014, 2018) and triumphs (2010). This generation has already won Euro 2024. The belief is real.

The NYC Spanish Community

New York has one of the largest Spanish-speaking communities in the world, though the Spanish (from Spain) community is smaller than the broader Latin American diaspora. Spanish cultural centers, Spanish-language media, and expat bars in Midtown and the Upper East Side will show every match. The broader Latin American community — which follows Spain closely — amplifies the watching culture significantly for every Spanish match.
