Rainy Day Guide — NYC During the World Cup 2026

July in New York averages 5–6 rain days per month. A World Cup trip is likely to include at least one rainy afternoon. Here's how to make the most of it.

Immersive Experiences (Best Rainy Day Option)

Rainy days are when the immersive experience venues shine. ARTE Museum NYC, SUBMERGE, and Candlelight Concerts are all fully indoors and provide a high-quality experience regardless of weather. ARTE Museum's digital art installation is genuinely extraordinary — one of the best things to do in NYC this year, rain or shine. Candlelight concerts at churches and landmarks around the city are 60–90 minutes, intimate, and beautiful.

Soccer Bars

The most natural rainy-day World Cup activity: go to a soccer bar 30 minutes before match time, order food, and watch the match in a room full of fans. Rain makes the bar atmosphere better — everyone crowds in, it gets loud, and no one's checking their phone for weather updates. See the best soccer bars guide.

Hudson Yards (Covered Option)

The Hudson Yards shopping mall is one of the largest in Manhattan and is entirely covered. The 60-foot outdoor screen is exposed to rain but the nearby Shops at Hudson Yards is fully indoor. World Cup programming runs inside the complex.

MetLife in the Rain

MetLife Stadium has no roof. The World Cup does not cancel or postpone for rain. If your match day is wet, bring a compact rain poncho (MetLife's clear bag policy allows small folded ponchos), waterproof shoes, and expect the atmosphere to be electric regardless. Some of the best football matches in history have been played in the rain.
