SUMMIT One Vanderbilt & Edge NYC During World Cup 2026: Sky-High Views & New Immersive Experiences

New York City's skyline experiences are having a World Cup moment. While Top of the Rock has the official FIFA Viewpoint designation and match streaming, two of the city's most celebrated modern observatories โ SUMMIT One Vanderbilt and Edge NYC at Hudson Yards โ are offering compelling reasons to go sky-high during the tournament, each with its own character and a new experience launching specifically for World Cup season.
SUMMIT One Vanderbilt
SUMMIT One Vanderbilt sits 93 floors above Midtown at 45 East 42nd Street, directly adjacent to Grand Central Terminal. Unlike traditional observation decks, SUMMIT is an immersive multisensory experience โ think mirrored floors, shifting light installations, glass terraces, and a sensation that plays with space and reflection in ways that are genuinely disorienting (in a good way).
For World Cup visitors, SUMMIT makes a compelling pre- or post-match stop. Grand Central Terminal is one of the primary World Cup transit hubs for buses to MetLife Stadium, so if you're heading to a game, you're already at the base of the building. The views from the terraces look south toward Lower Manhattan, west to New Jersey (and MetLife beyond), and north to the Park Avenue corridor โ a geographic overview that puts the tournament's geography in physical context.
Ascent, the glass-bottomed elevator that lifts visitors even higher above the summit terrace, is the signature thrill โ go at dusk to catch the shift from day to night across both the NYC skyline and the New Jersey horizon.
SUMMIT has also been identified as a venue for World Cup-related programming at Hudson Yards, including the "Fly Your Flag at Vessel" event and a "Spot the Bag" contest offering a chance to win Final tickets. Hudson Yards' 30-foot outdoor Big Screen is also screening matches throughout the tournament.
Edge NYC โ New Immersive Skyline Experience Opens June 11
Edge NYC, the outdoor sky deck at 30 Hudson Yards with its famed glass floor extending over the streets below, is opening a new permanent Immersive NYC Skyline Experience on June 11 โ the opening day of the World Cup. The timing is deliberate: this is a purpose-built World Cup-era launch designed to give visitors something new to discover during one of the city's most internationally attended summers.
Edge sits at 1,100 feet above street level, making it the highest outdoor sky deck in the Western Hemisphere. The glass-floored observation platform extends outward from the 100th floor of 30 Hudson Yards, offering vertigo-inducing views straight down to the street โ and wide-open sightlines to New Jersey and MetLife Stadium on a clear day.
Hudson Yards also features two FIFA World Cup 2026 Official Merchandise Stores โ one inside The Shops at Level 3, and one at the Public Square & Gardens โ and is running watch parties on the 30-foot outdoor screen through July 19.
Comparing the Three Major Observation Experiences
With Top of the Rock, SUMMIT One Vanderbilt, and Edge all operating during the tournament, here's a quick guide to choosing:
- Top of the Rock โ Best for live match viewing (it's the Official Viewpoint), iconic view of the ESB and Central Park to the north; pairs with the FIFA Museum below
- SUMMIT One Vanderbilt โ Best immersive/artistic experience; most unusual visual design; right next to Grand Central/transit hub; Ascent elevator is the highest point of any of the three
- Edge NYC โ Highest outdoor deck in the Western Hemisphere; glass floor for maximum vertigo; brand new skyline experience launching June 11; good for Hudson Yards shopping/dining day
