In one of the biggest results of the 2026 group stage, Ecuador stunned Germany 2-1 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford. The result means Ecuador advance to the Round of 32 — not as group winners, but they needed this win and they got it. Germany, despite the loss, still advance as Group E winners on goal difference (+6 vs Ivory Coast's +2). The MetLife crowd was electric, with the Ecuadorian community from Jackson Heights and Corona turning the stadium into a sea of yellow. Ecuador qualify. Germany qualify.
